Why we only rehome to indoor homes?

We felt it important to explain fully the reason we only home our bengals to indoor homes as there is obviously difference in opinions as to which life style suits cats - indoor or outdoor?

Firstly we would like to cover the risks that are associated with allowing cats to free roam - please bear in mind the average life span of an outdoor cat is 3years, and then bear in mind this statistic is based on regular domestic cats and NOT Bengals.

So what are the every day risks to your cat?
~ Road accident, regardless of whether you live in a built up or rural area cars will always pose a risk to cats - often in rural areas people are known to drive alot quicker down quiet country lanes. Think of the amount of animals such as badgers, squirrels, foxes etc you see on a main road compared to a country lane. Then remember that Bengals are bred originally from wild cats - often the Bengals are not that far removed, usually by 7-10 generations. Moggies have been around for generations more and have all these instincts built into them - Bengals DO NOT.

~ Theft, this subject has varying degrees and consequences, Bengals are stunning looking cats - its what they are bred for to look like mini-leopards. They are highly desirable and fetch a high price (quick buck!) when an opportunistic thief see's a rather special looking Bengal roaming the streets.
Think if your Bengal is stolen - where are they going to end up? in a loving family? - maybe, but more then likely into the hands of not very nice people. Used for dog baiting, getting passed from pillar to post, in a rehoming centre, being put to sleep, being tortured at the hands of someone.

~ People, not everyone likes cats, Bengals are very inquisitive animals - do you know everyone in your neighbourhood or local farmers who would be happy with a Bengal scaring away the birds in their garden? digging up their plants and borders, worrying livestock? Not everyone takes kindly to this.

~Other animals, Foxes pose a real risk to cats, and other animals, urban foxes are on the increase - and have even been known to attack people. Dogs, the majority of dogs like to chase cats - our Bengals love our dogs, what if a strange dog didnt 'love' them back?

~ Poisoning, there are all sorts of poisons out there - can you guarantee your Bengal wont come into contact with something toxic? we provide a list of known poisons to cats in our kitten packs, you can safely say you would be eradicate these from your house, but the same cannot be said for the great outdoors.

So as you can see there is more to just letting a cat outdoors to have fun - a Bengal is not your regular domestic cat and as such we will not rehome to anyone who wishes their cats to go outside, so please dont ask us to.
Instead we suggest if you wish to let your cat outdoors, why not build an enclosure? or maybe get them a harness and take them on walks? - there are lots of alternatives.
